Bukumbi Hospital is located in the northwest corner of Misungwi District in the Mwanza region 26km from Mwanza city. It operates under the auspices of the Archdiocese of Mwanza. The hospital was registered with the Ministry of Health and Social Services in1997 (Registration Number 197001).

Hospital Profile
Bukumbi Hospital is located in the northwest corner of Misungwe District in the Mwanza region. It operates under the auspices of the Archdiocese of Mwanza. The service area has a total population of about 351,607 people (2012 Census).
The hospital consists of three wards with 150 registered beds. The three wards include three gender-segregated wards: a Male ward, a Female and Children’s ward, and a Maternity ward. The hospital facilities include Outpatient services, pharmacy, laboratory, a surgical theatre, radiology, a dental unit, a blood bank, a Centre for Treatment and Care (CTC), and psychiatric services. Preventative services are administered by the Reproductive and Child Health (RCH) clinic. There is a chapel located within the hospital compound.
Difficult cases are referred to Bugando Medical Centre in Mwanza. The hospital also often hosts specialists and surgeons from Bugando to treat special and difficult cases.
The hospital serves as the practice area for students from Bukumbi School Nurse Training College, with hospital staff involved in teaching student practicals in the hospital’s various wards.
History
Bukumbi Parish was founded in 1893 by the White Fathers of the Missionaries of Africa. In 1912, a dispensary was founded to serve the region’s poor. The present hospital was constructed in the early 1960’s. The hospital was first administered by the White Sisters; in 1976 they were succeeded by the sisters of Our Lady of Kilimanjaro.
